US-Iran Peace Deal: The White House has indicated that US Vice President JD Vance will not depart for Switzerland on Thursday (local time) as initially planned, citing unresolved logistical arrangements for upcoming technical talks with Iran on its nuclear programme.

In a statement, a White House spokesperson said plans for the next round of technical discussions have not yet been finalised, although the US delegation remains prepared to depart as soon as arrangements are in place.

“As the Vice President said at his press conference, the plans for the upcoming technical talks have not been finalised, and the US delegation has been prepared to depart at the first available opportunity. But the logistics of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable," the spokesperson said as quoted by news agencies.

The first round of technical talks under the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran earlier this week had initially been expected to take place in Switzerland on Friday. However, the White House indicated that the meeting is now unlikely to occur as originally scheduled.

Earlier on Thursday, Vance acknowledged uncertainty surrounding the timing of the trip.

“Our plan is to go to Switzerland. I don’t know exactly when," Vance told reporters at the White House. “I suspect this weekend, but I’m not sure."

According to US officials, difficulties in coordinating travel and arrangements for Iranian negotiators have contributed to the delay.

Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasised that Iran’s nuclear programme will be discussed only in the final stage of negotiations with the United States, signalling that key differences between the two sides remain unresolved despite a preliminary peace agreement.

The Switzerland visit is expected to formally launch the next stage of negotiations between the United States and Iran as both sides work to translate the recently signed agreement into a broader and more detailed framework.
