US-Iran War Latest News Updates Today Live: Amid the latest flare-up in West Asia, with the Strait of Hormuz emerging as the major sticking point, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) Monday said it had launched further strikes against Iran in response to attacks on vessels in the strategic waterway.

According to the US military, the strikes aimed to “continue degrading their ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships“. In a post on ‘X’, it said: “At 5 p.m. ET today, U.S. Central Command forces began launching more strikes against Iran to continue degrading their ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The CENTOM further said that its Commander in Chief, Admiral Brad Cooper, directed the strikes against Tehran to “hold Iranian forces accountable”. 

Soon afterwards, Iranian state media reported that Tehran had launched missile, drone attacks on “enemy bases”. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had targeted Jordan’s Prince Hassan Air Base with missiles and drones.

West Asia On Boil, Yet Again

On Sunday, the US military announced that it had launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran, after renewed confrontation over the attacks in the strategic waterway saw several of Washington’s allies –– Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar –– targeted by incoming fire.

Iran reported strikes Sunday evening on two of its southern islands. Kuwait, on the other hand, said border posts and an offshore oil platform had come under attack.

The renewed tensions came after Iran targeted a commercial ship early Sunday transiting the Strait of Hormuz, whose crew was forced to leave the vessel after it went engulfed in flames following the strike.
