Woman, 75, dies after eating leftover meal from birthday party in Rajasthan

A 75-year-old woman died while undergoing treatment after 11 members of a family allegedly suffered suspected food poisoning from eating leftover food served at a birthday celebration in Rajasthan's Dholpur district, police said on Monday.

An official said that a birthday celebration was held at a house in the Lula Ka Pura village on July 7. Food prepared for the event was consumed on the day of the celebration and again the following day. On July 9, 11 members of the family fell ill and were admitted to the district hospital.

"On July 12, 2026, a 75-year-old woman identified as Triveni died during treatment. A post-mortem examination is being conducted," the official said.

According to family member Mahesh Kushwaha, paneer curry was prepared for his niece's birthday celebration. After the function, the leftover food was consumed again by family members the next day.

Soon after, the relatives developed symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and restlessness. They were rushed to the district hospital for treatment.

The affected family members were identified as Raunak, Seema, Pinki, Poonam, Anushka, Triveni, Sunita, Lucky, Nitin, Satish and Pancham Singh. They were admitted to the district hospital, where treatment is underway.

District Hospital PMO Dr Samarveer Singh said all 11 patients were admitted with complaints of abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea after reportedly consuming paneer served at the birthday function and the leftover curry the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, while the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning will be determined after further medical examination and the post-mortem report.
