Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday said that former Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee’s political life continued to serve as a reference point for good governance for leaders across the country.

Mr. Mohan was addressing a public meeting at Dharmavaram in Sri Sathya Sai district, after unveiling the BJP doyen’s statue, which marked the launch of the ‘Good Governance Yatra’ in Andhra Pradesh.

He recalled Vajpayee’s early years as son of a schoolteacher, his participation in national movements, imprisonment in Kashmir, and his emergence as a unifying figure, capable of bringing multiple parties onto a single platform.

Vajpayee had shown that political stability could be achieved through consensus, and his coalition leadership remained a benchmark, Mr. Mohan observed.

He highlighted Vajpayee’s contributions in telecom reforms, rural road connectivity, nuclear tests and welfare programmes, noting that these helped shape modern India.

He thanked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan for their support of the event and the yatra.

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, who presided over the programme, said the yatra was designed to take Vajpayee’s administrative principles to every district. He said Andhra Pradesh’s coalition government —comprising the TDP, JSP and BJP — was committed to delivering people-focused governance.

“The yatra reflects collective leadership and shared responsibility,” he said, adding that the construction of the Vajpayee Memorial Park in Amaravati would begin soon. Leaders and supporters of the three parties participated in large numbers.

Earlier, the NDA cadres, led by BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav, took out a rally in the town.

The yatra would cover Anantapur, Kurnool, Machilipatnam, Srikakulam and Eluru in the next fortnight. Mr. Naidu is scheduled to attend the State-level public meeting in Amaravati on December 25.
