Varanasi businessman thrashed to death by mob after his car knocks down woman

A road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi took a violent turn late Sunday night, leaving a 38-year-old businessman dead after he was allegedly beaten by a mob following a collision with a pedestrian.

The incident took place around 11 pm when Manish Kumar Singh was driving through the area. His car hit a woman walking along the roadside, leaving her injured. She was rushed to the hospital by locals for treatment.

MOB ATTACK AFTER COLLISION

What followed shocked even seasoned police officers. Locals at the scene grew angry after the accident and allegedly attacked Singh, dragging him out of the vehicle and assaulting him brutally.

Severely injured, Singh was taken to the Banaras Hindu University hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

A police officer said the dispute after the accident “escalated into a violent clash”, leading to Singh’s death.

POLICE ACTION AND ARRESTS

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gomti Zone) Neetu Kadyan said, “On Sunday night, while Singh was returning home from his factory, his car was involved in an accident involving a woman. The situation escalated, resulting in his death due to severe injuries.”

Based on a complaint filed by Singh’s family, a case has been registered at Phoolpur police station against eight named accused and seven unidentified persons.

Police have arrested four accused so far, while raids are underway to track down the remaining suspects.

FAMILY PROTESTS, HEAVY POLICE DEPLOYMENT

Following the incident, the victim’s family staged protests demanding justice. Security has been tightened in the area, with heavy police deployment outside Singh’s residence to prevent any further unrest.

Authorities said efforts are ongoing to restore calm and ensure those involved in the mob violence are brought to justice.
