Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Saturday hit back at critics, accusing “conspirators" of misinterpreting her recent remarks, while state BJP chief and Rajya Sabha MP Madan Rathore suggested that leadership roles such as Chief Minister are not guaranteed every time.
The controversy stems from Raje’s interaction with residents at Jhalawar’s Kamkheda Balaji Dham temple earlier this week, where her comments went viral. Clarifying her position, she said her words were taken out of context. Referring to a road project in her constituency, Raje explained that she had cited her own experience when a national highway passed in front of her house in Dholpur.
Raje’s Remark Sparks Controversy
“The people there (in Jhalawar) wanted the alignment of the bypass changed. By giving them my own example, I said that when the national highway passed in front of my house in Dholpur, I too had to move back the boundary of my house. I could not fight for myself. And when I couldn’t save my own house from being demolished due to the rules, then how will I save yours?" she said.
Addressing the controversy, she remarked, “Yeh kshadyantrakari log hain, pehle bhi kiye hain, aaj bhi kiye hain, itne saalon tak kuch nahi kar paaye…(These are conspirators — they have done it before and are doing it now, but they haven’t been able to achieve anything all these years)," adding that such efforts would not succeed in the future as well.
Rajasthan BJP Chief’s Subtle Message
Responding to the row, Rathore dismissed claims that Raje’s work was being ignored, saying he had spoken to her recently and that her concerns were being addressed.
Speaking in Bikaner, he invoked a Rajasthani proverb to underline his point, advising contentment within the party and cautioning against unnecessary disputes. He also reiterated that while Raje remains a key leader, holding the Chief Minister’s post is not a certainty every time.
