As Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief Vijay’s hunt for allies continues following his powerful debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has yet to make a decision, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.

The VCK, which bagged two seats, confirmed the party’s supremo would make a decision on the matter. “It will be decided by our party president, Thol Thirumavalavan," a senior party functionary said, as quoted by PTI.

Earlier, Vijay wrote to VCK Chief Thol Thirumavalan, seeking his support to form a government in the state.

Vijay — who ventured into politics by forming his party TVK — redefined the political landscape of Tamil Nadu by ending the DMK-AIADMK duopoly, securing an impressive 108 out of the 234 seats in the state assembly.

However, the TVK fell short of the majority mark of 118 and it requires an additional 10 seats to form a government.

Tamil Nadu Government Formation News Live Updates

Vijay Meets Tamil Nadu Governor

Earlier in the day, TVK Chief Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to stake a claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.

He submitted a formal letter to the governor, claiming he has the support required to form the government. According to the sources, the letter also consisted of the signatures of 108 MLAs of the TVK, who backed Vijay as their choice for the Chief Ministerial post.

However, sources indicated that the governor remains unconvinced that the TVK has an apt number of MLAs to form the government in Tamil Nadu, adding the oath-taking is unlikely tomorrow.

Vijay had urged Governor Arlekar to allow him to take an oath as the Chief Minister at 10 A.M. tomorrow, May 7.

The DMK secured 59 seats, AIADMK 47, PMK 4, IUML 2, CPI 2, CPI(M) 2, and the BJP, DMDK, and AMMK one seat each.

MK Stalin, DMK Chief who lost to TVK’s VS Babu in Kolathur, has already submitted his resignation as the Chief Minister.
