Vehicles stranded after avalanche hits Srinagar-Kargil highway

A snow avalanche on Saturday (April 25, 2026) hit the Kashmir-Ladakh national highway and left many vehicles stranded. One driver was reportedly missing after the avalanche. 

Snow sheaths started sliding into a major avalanche in the afternoon at Shaitan Nallah, which connects Sonamarg in the Kashmir Valley with Drass in Ladakh, officials said. Several vehicles were hit by the avalanche and forced the closure of traffic on the highway.
