DRDO has rolled out the Vikram VT21 Advanced Armoured Platform in tracked and wheeled variants at Ahilyanagar. The indigenous system adds mobility, protection and firepower to India's combat vehicle push.

Officials said the development of the system was completed in a record timeline of three years.
India’s defence capabilities received a boost as the Defence Research and Development Organisation rolled out the Vikram VT21 Advanced Armoured Platform in both tracked and wheeled variants, marking a key milestone in indigenous military development.
The platforms were flagged off at the Vehicle Research and Development Establishment in Ahilyanagar in the presence of senior officials, including DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat.
The Vikram VT21 platform has been designed and developed by DRDO’s Vehicle Research Development Laboratory in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Bharat Forge Limited.

DESIGNED FOR MODERN WARFARE
The Advanced Armoured Platform has been built to meet the evolving operational needs of the Indian Armed Forces, with capabilities suited for both Infantry Combat Vehicle and Armoured Personnel Carrier roles.

Both the tracked and wheeled variants are equipped with an indigenously developed 30 mm crewless turret, along with a 7.62 mm PKT gun.
The system is also configured to launch anti-tank guided missiles, enhancing its combat versatility.
MOBILITY, FIREPOWER AND PROTECTION
The platform combines mobility, firepower and protection features. It is powered by a high-output engine paired with automatic transmission, offering high speed and strong obstacle-crossing ability.
It comes with STANAG level 4 and 5 protection, with modular blast and ballistic shielding.
The vehicle is amphibious and equipped with hydro jets, enabling it to cross water obstacles with ease and expand its operational flexibility.
KEY OFFICIALS PRESENT
The rollout event was attended by senior DRDO officials and industry leaders, including Prof Prateek Kishore and Dr Chandrika Kaushik, along with Tata Advanced Systems CEO Sukaran Singh and Bharat Forge Vice Chairman Amit Kalyani.
The unveiling marks another step in India’s push towards defence indigenisation and advanced combat readiness.
