A series of viral posts on social media platform X have claimed that Congress workers in parts of West Bengal have “reclaimed" party offices allegedly “seized" during the tenure of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), following the recent Assembly election results in the state.

The posts, widely shared along with video clips, claim that at least three Congress offices in different regions of Bengal have been reopened by party workers after the TMC’s electoral defeat.

One viral post specifically refers to an incident in Karimnagar area of Nadia district, where Congress workers are seen entering and reopening a local office, which the post alleges had been under TMC control for years.

Another set of posts from X users claim that similar developments took place in Barrackpore, where a Congress office was “taken over" during TMC rule and later “restored" to Congress workers.

Some users also shared clips suggesting party flags being reinstalled and supporters gathering outside the premises, framing the developments as a political reversal after the change in government.

One widely circulated post called the events as an example of “BJP restoring democracy in Bengal", claiming that reduced “fear" after the election outcome had allowed opposition workers to reclaim political spaces. However, these claims have not been independently verified, and there is no official confirmation regarding any such takeover or reopening of party offices.

Separately, senior TMC leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Jawhar Sircar has commented on the party’s electoral setback in an interview with PTI. Sircar, who resigned from the party last year following the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, reflected on the broader political shifts in the state.

“Mamata Banerjee has, in a way, been a boost for the BJP in West Bengal. When she formed her party in the late 1990s, the BJP had no presence in the state. It was through her alliance that the BJP first gained a foothold and began winning seats," Sircar said.

He further added that after coming to power in 2011, the TMC leadership focused on weakening opposition parties. “Many leaders from these parties either joined her or moved to the BJP for protection and political space. Over time, the BJP came to be seen as a kind of ‘life insurance policy’ for those opposing her," he said.

Meanwhile, there has been no official response from the Congress regarding the viral claims about party office “reclamations" in the state.
