The remarks came after Sarma stated that action should be taken against 'Miya Muslims' and said his government was openly opposed to them.

AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi launched a scathing attack at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his “troubling Miya Muslims" remarks.

“I want to give you Rs 2 as alms," said Owaisi, hitting back at the Assam CM. He also mocked the Biswa and said governance cannot be run through fear or prejudice. He stressed that the Constitution guarantees equality to every citizen regardless of religion or community and said no authority, including a chief minister, can act otherwise.

Owaisi also alleged that Bengali-speaking Muslims in Assam were being unfairly blamed for multiple issues.

“If vegetable prices increase in Assam, Miya Muslims are blamed. If someone wants to vote, they are told to go to Bangladesh," he said.

The remarks came after Sarma stated that action should be taken against “Miya Muslims" and said his government was openly opposed to them.

“Trouble the Miya Muslims by any means. If they face trouble, they will go from Assam … We are directly against the Miya Muslims. We are not hiding anything," he had said.

His comments sparked a political controversy in the election-bound state, with opposition parties accusing the BJP of attempting communal polarisation to gain votes.

The BJP, however, has maintained that its focus in Assam remains on tackling illegal immigration and protecting indigenous rights, an issue that has long been central to the state’s electoral politics.
