Ara: A 50-year-old ward member died after a speeding truck hit his motorcycle from behind on the Ara-Mohania National Highway (NH-319) near Kaura Mathiya village under Jagdishpur police station area in Bhojpur district on Monday morning.The deceased, identified as Lal Babu Yadav, son of Shivji Yadav and a resident of Masadh Tola village under Udwantnagar police station, died on the spot. His wife, who was riding pillion, survived the accident after jumping off the motorcycle moments before the collision.Jagdishpur SHO Sushant Kumar said the mishap occurred around 11am near Kaura Mathiya village. “Though the driver managed to escape, the truck involved in the accident has been seized.
Investigation is underway to identify and arrest the driver,” he told TOI.The SHO said Yadav was an elected ward member of Ward No. 13 of Masadh panchayat under Udwantnagar block.According to police, Yadav had gone to offer prayers at a temple in Bahiyara village and was returning home with his wife when the truck rammed into their motorcycle from behind.Eyewitnesses said the impact threw Yadav under the truck, which dragged him for several metres before coming to a halt.
The driver then fled, abandoning the vehicle at the spot.Following the incident, angry residents blocked NH-319, disrupting traffic on the busy highway for nearly an hour. Police later cleared the blockade and restored movement of vehicles.“A traffic jam persisted for about an hour before normalcy was restored,” a police officer said. Police have launched a probe into the accident.
