President Trump declared the ceasefire with Iran "over" after both sides traded fire. He called Iran "scum" but said negotiators can continue talks.

United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that the ceasefire with Iran for him was “over"; however, the negotiators can keep talking to Tehran. Trump’s remarks came after the two sides traded fire over the issue of commercial ships getting attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump called Iran “scum" and “cuckoo" after the US launched strikes on Iran overnight, and Iran’s Guards claimed that they had targeted US bases in the Gulf in retaliatory strikes.

‘I Think It’s Over’

Speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said that the truce with Iran is now over.

“I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them any more, they’re scum. They’re scum, they’re sick people, they’re led by sick people, and they’re vicious, violent people. And if they had a nuclear weapon, they’d use it. As far as I’m concerned, it’s over," he said.

‘Waste Of Time Dealing With Them’

Trump stated that he will speak to businessman-turned-negotiator Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who have been the negotiators in the Iran deal, but stressed that now it was up to Tehran to return to the table.

“Frankly, I don’t want to waste my time with them. Now, I’ll let our wonderful negotiators keep talking if they want, but I don’t see it. As far as I’m concerned, it’s just a waste of time dealing with them. They’re liars," Trump said.
