A light-hearted moment involving billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk unexpectedly stole attention during the official welcome ceremony for US President Donald Trump in Beijing, as global leaders prepared for crucial US-China talks.

Musk, who is part of the high-profile American business delegation visiting China, was seen spinning around while filming a 360-degree video during the ceremony. The candid clip quickly spread online, with social media users reacting to the tech billionaire’s relaxed and curious approach amid the highly formal diplomatic event.

Musk is among several influential American business figures accompanying Trump on the visit, including Tim Cook of Apple and Jensen Huang of NVIDIA.

Trump China Visit

The viral moment occurred just before Trump held high-stakes discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders reportedly spoke for nearly two hours as tensions continue over trade, technology competition, Taiwan, and the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

Ahead of the talks, Xi called for China and the United States to be “partners, not rivals", signalling Beijing’s attempt to present itself as a stable global force despite rising geopolitical friction. Trump responded warmly, describing Xi as a “great leader" and expressing confidence that relations between the two countries would become “better than ever before".

However, Chinese state media later released comments from Xi warning that disagreements over Taiwan could potentially lead to “conflict" between the world’s two largest economies. Taiwan remains one of the most sensitive issues in US-China relations, alongside tariffs, access to technology markets, and strategic influence in Asia.

Trump’s return to Beijing marks his first visit to China since 2017. Analysts say he is now engaging with a far more assertive China that is increasingly positioning itself as a global counterweight to American influence. Before arriving, Trump said he would push China to “open up" more opportunities for US industries and businesses.

While serious geopolitical discussions dominated the agenda, it was Musk’s spontaneous 360-degree spin that briefly gave the internet a lighter moment during an otherwise tense diplomatic summit.
