Iran on Monday released a video claiming that Israel’s air defence system failed to intercept a missile, with footage purportedly showing a cluster bomb striking the ground. In a post on X, the Iran Consulate in Hyderabad mocked the system, writing, "When was the last time you heard about IRON DOME? (Last night🤔)".
The video circulating online appears to show a missile bypassing Israel’s Iron Dome defence system and detonating on impact. The claim comes amid heightened tensions between the two countries, though there was no immediate independent verification of the footage. The Iron Dome is a key component of Israel’s multi-layered missile defence network and is widely regarded as one of the most advanced systems of its kind.
However, recent developments have raised concerns about its ability to intercept certain types of threats, including cluster munitions.Last month, Iran signalled the use of advanced ballistic missiles capable of carrying cluster warheads. Such weapons can disperse multiple submunitions over a wide area, making interception more challenging.According to Israeli authorities, several missiles launched during the recent escalation have carried cluster warheads, with at least one strike in central Israel injuring multiple people. The latest video and accompanying social media post reflect the ongoing information and psychological dimension of the conflict, with both sides seeking to shape narratives alongside military actions.
