Water supply to several areas in the city was hit on Saturday after a major water supply pipeline burst at Pattoor after a tree crashed down on it.

The tree was one of several that were being chopped down from the banks of the Amayizhanjan canal passing through the area.

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) said the 500 mm cast-iron pipe sustained heavy damage in the incident.

Water supply is expected to be restored in several of the affected areas only by 7 p.m. on Sunday, KWA said. The areas include Pattoor, Vanchiyoor, Mathrubhumi road, Chirakulam Road, Moolavilakom, Thampuranmukku, Pettah, Chakka, Palkulangara, All Saints, Vettucaud, Shangumugham and Kochu Veli.
