Galgotias University on Tuesday issued a clarification after facing criticism over the display of a robotic dog at the ongoing AI summit in the national capital, saying it “never claimed to have built the device" and that it was procured from a Chinese manufacturer for academic purposes.

In a statement, the university said the robotic dog was acquired from Unitree, a global robotics company based in China, and is being used as a learning tool for students.

“Let us be clear, Galgotias has not built this robodog, nor have we claimed to do so. What we are building are minds that will soon design, engineer and manufacture such technologies in Bharat," the university said.

The clarification followed a social media backlash after reports claimed that the university showcased the Unitree Go2 robotic dog, an AI-powered device available on Chinese platforms for Rs 2–3 lakh, under the name “Orion" at the AI summit in New Delhi.

Several users accused the institution of presenting imported technology as indigenously developed.

Responding to the controversy, the university said its focus has always been on exposing students to cutting-edge global technologies to prepare them for future innovation.

“From the US to China and Singapore, we bring advanced technologies to campus because exposure creates vision, and vision creates creators," the statement said, adding that the robodog is actively being used by students to test capabilities and explore real-world applications.

Emphasising its academic intent, Galgotias University said innovation should not be limited by borders and learning must remain global in outlook.

“This is not about importing technology, but about inspiring transformation. Our students study, challenge and improve upon global innovations so they can eventually build world-class solutions from India for the world," it added.

The university said it would continue to source advanced technologies internationally to support hands-on learning and foster an ecosystem that empowers young innovators to develop indigenous solutions in the long run.
