West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 Live Updates: The 2026 West Bengal Assembly election is set to be a key political contest, with voting scheduled in two phases on 23 and 29 April and counting on 4 May. All 294 seats are at stake, and parties will need 148 seats to form the government. The battle is mainly between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state under Suvendu Adhikari.
Tight Contest and Key Issues: The campaign is marked by strong political rivalry, welfare promises, and questions over governance and voter lists. Employment, development, identity politics, and law and order remain central themes. With a large electorate and strict security measures in place, the election is being seen as a major test of political strength in eastern India.
Voter Mood and Projections: The larger Assembly Election 2026 could reshape the political landscape. The key question is whether incumbents can hold on or if voters are ready for change. CVOTER projections show close contests across states. In West Bengal, TMC is at 44% while BJP stands at 40%.
Voter Roll Controversy: Over 27 lakh voters have been found ineligible after adjudication. Of 60.06 lakh under review, 27,16,393 were declared ineligible. Earlier deletions and revisions have reduced the electorate to 7.04 crore. Mamata Banerjee has said her party will fight for the inclusion of these voters. The highest number of deletions have happened in the Muslim-majority district of Murshidabad, where out of the 11,01,145 voters marked under adjudication, 4,55,137 voters were found ineligible. The lowest deletions were in Jhargram with 1,240 voters.
