Hannah Nelson was just 23 when her life suddenly came to an end after a brain bleed last weekend. The young United States para swimmer, who had already faced big challenges in life, passed away, leaving the swimming community in shock.
She was not just an athlete but someone who inspired many with her strength and positive spirit. Her death was confirmed by Ave Maria University, where she had been part of the swim team.Hannah Nelson’s journey was never easy. When she was only 11, she was diagnosed with bone cancer. Because of that, she lost her left leg below the knee. But even after that, she stayed close to swimming, a sport she loved deeply. Over time, she worked hard, got stronger, and reached the international stage.

Hannah was a swimming program record holder at Ave Maria University. She proudly represented Team USA at the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships and was a valued member of the U.S. Paralympics Swimming team.
