New Delhi: In some reports, it has indicated that WhatsApp is experimenting with a new way for users to access status updates directly from the Chats tab. The latest status update might soon appear in the top application bar, making it easier to access without switching tabs. This latest feature has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.6.9.
This feature places status updates in the centre of the top application bar. The section has been reported to show profile icons of contacts the user interacts with the most, provided they have a shared status upgrade. This generally means the users will be able to directly use who has posted the status without leaving the Chats tab.
This latest upgrade is expected to introduce another way to view all of the available status updates. When the users scroll down within the Chats tab, a dedicated row appears showing the status updates shared by their contacts. From this row, the users can swipe horizontally to browse via different updates, similar to how statuses were displayed in the older status tab layout. The idea behind this latest change is quicker visibility; instead of navigating to the Updates tab, users can get a glance at the recent statuses while staying within their main chat list.
The users can check whether a contact has shared a status update from the Chats tab by tapping on the profile picture. They need to scroll through the entire chat list to locate those contacts. The feature is still in the early stages of development. There is no confirmed timeline for its public release. WhatsApp is currently refining how the status update will be organized and displayed within the top application bar.
