 'I've had bad relationships'

Bipasha Basu married Karan Singh Grover in 2016 and in an interview, the actress had confessed that she faced a lot of judgments and criticism for it. Despite the raised eyebrows, Bipasha revealed that external judgments never fazed her, her focus remained firmly on the strength of their relationship.

Karan was earlier married to Shraddha Nigam and Jennifer Winget. This is his third marriage. The ‘Jism’ actress had said in an earlier interview with Times Of India, “It didn’t bother me and we spoke about it. I believe that everyone has a journey, and it is very easy for anyone to exclaim, ‘Oh, this is his third marriage, nahin chalega divorce ho jaayega.’ I tell people that you have to be in someone’s shoes to know their story and understand their journey.

This world is full of cynics, and thankfully, I have never been cynical no matter what has happened in my life.

Bipasha elaborated further on why she doesn’t allow societal standards to dictate the value of a relationship. She said, “I have always been a believer. And Karan is like that, too. I feel I am lucky, as I live only for love. And no man has given me more love and respect than Karan. I might not be looking for the same things in marriage that others do.

I have my own checklist, and I have ticked my boxes accordingly. And I believe you can’t judge anyone for their bad relationships.

I have had bad relationships, and I could have been easily married twice. The relationship could have been as deep, but I didn’t fall into the legality, and that is the only difference. You can’t condemn someone on the basis of a piece of paper.” The couple, who welcomed their daughter Devi in 2022, have continued to shut down naysayers by standing strong together.

In a more recent interaction with Pinkvilla, Bipasha revealed how she had to convince her parents to accept her choice to marry Karan. She said, “A failed marriage does not imply that the person is wrong. So they shouldn’t be condemned. For example, I conveyed to my parents that the relationship I had was much longer and more important than his marriage.

I just didn’t sign a piece of paper. So, how am I different from him?” Meanwhile, Bipasha has been away from the movies for a while. She has been in the news lately as Mrunal Thakur’s old video commenting on her went viral. The internet stood up for Bipasha and called her iconic, thus criticised Mrunal for calling Bipasha manly and muscular. Mrunal later issued an apology stating that she was just very young then and didn’t know any better.
