Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala sustained a suspected broken ankle during the first half of Saturday’s Club World Cup quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Germany international is believed to have suffered a fractured left fibula in what is being described as a “horror injury" during the high-stakes match in the United States.

Serious Ligament Damage Reported

According to German outlet BILD, Musiala has “damaged several ligaments" and could be sidelined for “four to five months." Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund gave a grim update to DAZN, stating: “Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good."

The 22-year-old was injured during stoppage time at the end of the first half following a collision inside PSG’s penalty area. As Musiala challenged defender William Pacho for possession, PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma inadvertently rolled over Musiala’s left ankle, causing it to twist at a disturbing angle.

Bayern’s medical staff rushed onto the field as Donnarumma, visibly shaken, dropped to the ground with his hands on his head in shock. Players from both teams quickly formed a circle around Musiala, who was then stretchered off the pitch.

Referee Anthony Taylor ended the first half prematurely, with the match still scoreless at 0-0.

Kompany Reacts to Key Injury Blow

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany expressed his frustration after the match, saying his “blood boils" at losing such a vital player yet again. However, he remained cautiously hopeful, adding: “The overwhelming feeling is that I hope it’s not as bad as it looks, and that he will get through this one."

Bayern went on to lose the match 2-0 to PSG, exiting the tournament in the quarterfinal stage. The Bundesliga champions are now set to return home for a brief offseason break ahead of preparations for the 2025–26 campaign.
