China finished at the top of the medal table at the 2026 Winter Paralympics in Italy. The Games were held in the cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from March 6 to March 15. A total of 611 athletes from 55 countries took part in the competition.

The event featured 79 medal events across six sports. China produced a strong and consistent performance throughout the Games. The nation won 44 medals in total, including 15 gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze medals.This edition marked the 59th Winter Paralympic Games organized by the International Paralympic Committee. Athletes competed in sports like para alpine skiing, para biathlon, para cross-country skiing, para snowboard, para ice hockey, and wheelchair curling.

Several nations also made their debut at the Winter Paralympics. Countries such as El Salvador, Haiti, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Portugal participated for the first time.

The event highlighted growing global participation in winter para sports.

China delivered a dominant performance and finished first in the medal standings. The country won 15 gold medals, along with 13 silver and 16 bronze medals. This strong result confirmed China’s growing strength in winter para sports.

The United States finished second in the medal table. One of the biggest highlights came in para ice hockey. The American team defeated Canada 6-2 in the final. With this win, the United States secured its fifth consecutive gold medal in the sport.Russia returned to the Winter Paralympics under its national flag for the first time since 2014. The country finished third overall with eight gold medals and several podium finishes in different events.Host nation Italy also impressed the home fans. Italy produced its best performance in Winter Paralympic history. The team finished fourth in the medal table with 16 medals.The closing ceremony was held at the historic Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium. This venue also hosted events during the 1956 Winter Olympics. The ceremony carried the theme “Italian Souvenir.” It featured music, dance performances, and tributes to the athletes.Andrew Parsons officially declared the Games closed. He praised the athletes and organizers for delivering an inspiring event. The next Winter Paralympics will take place in the French Alps in 2030.
