BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen has emerged as the youngest member of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly after winning the Koridang bypoll by a margin of 3,123 votes.
The 35-year-old secured 7,317 votes, defeating Independent candidate Toshikaba, who polled 4,194 votes, according to Election Commission data.
The bypoll witnessed a multi-cornered contest, with Imtiwapang finishing third with 3,633 votes and NPP nominee I Abenjang securing 3,219 votes. Congress candidate T Chalukumba Ao managed only 144 votes, while NOTA received 48 votes.
Imchen maintained a steady lead throughout counting, particularly in key areas such as Mangmetong and Longkhum, which helped him consolidate a comfortable victory.

Legacy Seat And Political Continuity
The Koridang by-election was necessitated following the death of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen, who was also Daochier Imchen’s father and a five-time legislator. His win is being seen as a continuation of his family’s long-standing political influence in Mokokchung district.
The new MLA has been fielded as the consensus candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), reflecting coordinated support from alliance partners.
Expressing gratitude after his victory, Imchen said the mandate reflected public trust. “First of all, I thank God for His blessings. I am very humbled by this victory, and I thank the people of Koridang for placing their faith in me," he said.
He also vowed to carry forward his father’s work, stating that the “good work he has done. I will try my best to continue it".
Leaders Congratulate Imchen
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio congratulated Imchen and said the result reflected public confidence in the PDA coalition. “Grateful to the electorate for reposing faith in the PDA coalition, and appreciation to all the party workers of the alliance for their dedication and hard work. We are motivated to work harder for the all-round progress of Nagaland," he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton also lauded the win, crediting organisational unity. “This moment reflects unity and a shared vision for the future. I sincerely appreciate the tireless efforts of our dedicated karyakartas, whose commitment on the ground continues to inspire and drive our mission forward," he posted on X.
