Tragedy struck on March 23, 2026, at Rancho Santana resort in Tola, on Nicaragua's southwest coast.

Grelle was vacationing with Dave and their three kids when their open-air tourist truck, carrying about 28 foreigners, lost control downhill and rolled over.Over 20 people were hurt, including children. Grelle suffered fatal head trauma and a skull fracture en route to Hospital Gaspar García Laviana in Rivas.

Grelle’s brother put up a heart-wrenching post on social media

Grelle's brother, Andy Joyce, shared his raw grief on Facebook, writing, "one of the most brilliant, driven, and selfless people I have ever met, and she was relentless in everything she did, especially when it came to helping her people." He added, "We are heartbroken for David Grelle, Julian, Kit, and Des, as well as everyone else who knew and loved Kasey."
