As peace talks over the war in West Asia remain stalled, Iran is considering placing bounties on U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Tehran’s parliament is gearing up to vote on a bill offering rewards for whoever assassinated President Trump and PM Netanyahu, according to a report by The Telegraph UK.
The development comes weeks after Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with several political and military bigwigs, were killed in joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes.
Ebrahim Azizi, the chairman of Iran’s national security commission, said the body was preparing a bill titled “Reciprocal action by military and security forces of the Islamic Republic", paving the way for a payment of €50m (£43.5m) to any individual or entity who assassinates Trump or Netanyahu, The Telegraph UK reported. The proposed bounty legislation is being viewed as a shift from previous religious fatwas and propaganda campaigns to a more formal, parliamentary action amid a fragile ceasefire between Tehran and Washington.
According to Azizi, Trump, Netanyahu, and Adml Brad Cooper of the US Central Command are the ones responsible for the February 28 strikes that killed Khamenei.
‘Whoever Sends Trump, Netanyahu To Hell’
Mahmoud Nabavian, another member of the national security commission, said the parliament would soon vote on a bill that rewards those who “sends Mr Trump and Netanyahu to hell", according to The Telegraph UK.
He vowed a “devastating" response if military attacks against Iran resumed.
What’s The Status-Quo?
Iran has said that talks with the United States are progressing through Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator between the two nations.
Tehran said it had responded to a new American proposal aimed at ending the conflict that began in late February with the joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes.
According to Iranian reports, U.S. conditions included no payment of war reparations to Tehran, the surrender of enriched uranium, and payment of less than 25 per cent of the country’s frozen assets, among others.
