New Delhi: A young graduate of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi has become the subject of a discussion on the Internet after giving up a well-paying position with a salary of 17 lakh annually not due to the salary, but due to the workload.
The 24-year-old, Chirag Madaan, was working in corporate banking area. Paperwise it was a dream job. However, in reality, everything was quite different.
In his viral video, what began as an ordinary 9-to-5 job gradually transformed into lengthy hours of work sometimes as early as morning till evening. Even, the working week became six days instead of five and he had hardly any time with himself.
Even simple things such as lunch breaks were stressful. Due to the workload, employees had to eat their meals within 10-15 minutes. Sick leaves were also not easy since they had to be explained in details thus, it was hard to even rest when sick.
To top it all, there was a lot of pressure to achieve high sales targets which at times involved crores worth deals. Misses didn’t help any, just increased stress and reiterating performance pressure.
All this started to influence his mental peace and well-being over time. It was then that he made the decision to put his health first before a good pay.
His tale began to go viral, and many of the individuals could associate with his experience. Others said they supported his decision to concentrate on the work-life balance, yet others were surprised that somebody could quit a good paying job.
However, in essence, what he meant is that a high pay does not necessarily imply a good life.
