may need to submit a written declaration of faith if she wants to continue visiting Kedarnath and Badrinath. Hemant Dwivedi, chairman of the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC), which manages the two shrines, has said that non-Hindus seeking darshan will be required to affirm belief in Sanatan Dharma through an affidavit.
The BKTC had unanimously approved the proposal at a board meeting on March 10, and the committee has since prepared a standard format for the affidavit and forwarded the proposal to the Uttarakhand government.
Talking to reporters in Kedarnath, Dwivedi said: “We have issued a formal order to prevent the entry of non-Sanatanis to our temples because it leads to various complications.” He added that the move was being made in view of the Char Dham Yatra, which begins on April 19.
More than six lakh pilgrims had already registered for the yatra, according to reports on the announcement.
