Falls can be catastrophic for the elderly, often requiring complete rehabilitation at home. Ask Mumbai resident Ritesh Sheth, whose 74-year-old father Deepak Sheth fractured his hip after a fall in Dec 2025 and underwent surgery.

“He was bedridden. The hospital arranged nursing services, and for two months, he required round-the-clock care,” he says. The total cost of home care, including physiotherapy, was Rs 2.5 lakh.
It’s not just senior citizens. US-based Jeetesh Hasijani, 31, injured a ligament during an offsite in Pune and required surgery, followed by nursing and physiotherapy. The post-surgery cost came to Rs 1 lakh. Like Sheth and Hasijani, more families are turning to home healthcare for post-surgical recovery, elderly and palliative care and chronic conditions.

The trend is driven by an ageing population, nuclear families, rising chronic and lifestyle ailments, growing home healthcare availability and high hospital costs.
