Wife, daughter stay with man’s body for four days

Tuticorin: The wife of a 70-year-old man and their mentally-challenged daughter have remained with the dead body of the man at their house near Eral in the Tuticorin district for four days.

Police recovered the decomposed body on Sunday.Police identified the deceased as Sinivasan, a daily wage worker from JM Nagar in South Valavallan village near Eral. He lived with his wife Asupathy, 68, and daughter Muthulakshmi, 38. Police said neigbours were disturbed by a strong stench emanating from Sinivasan’s house on Sunday. Subsequently, residents knocked at the door of the house. When Asupathy opened the door after some time, they found the decomposed body of the Sinivasan.

They then alerted the Eral police, who rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the nearby govt hospital for postmortem. Police have registered a case.The preliminary postmortem report suggested that there was nothing suspicious in the death and Sinivasan could have died due to age-related illness. Asupathy was traumatised by her husband’s sudden death and did not step out or inform anyone and kept the house locked, police said.
