US President Donald Trump on Friday said there had been “some good news" regarding the war in Iran, but warned that the ceasefire may not be extended after Wednesday if the second round of talks with Tehran fail to reach an agreement.

“We had some pretty good news 20 minutes ago, but it seems to be going very well in the Middle East with Iran," he told reporters aboard Air Force One, without elaborating. “You’ll hear about. I just think it’s something that should happen… I think it will. We’ll see what happens."

Trump further said the US Navy blockade in the Strait of Hormuz would remain despite Iran reopening the critical waterway, but he may not extend it. He said the two-week ceasefire with Iran may not be extended until a long-term agreement to end the war is reached by Wednesday.

“So you have a blockade, and unfortunately, we have to start dropping bombs again," he added.
