At least 47 people were injured after an Iranian ballistic missile struck a residential area in the southern Israeli town of Dimona on Saturday evening (local time). The town is known for the dome-shaped structure at its nuclear centre and is often referred to as “Little India".
Israel’s national emergency medical service, Magen David Adom (MDA), said more than three dozen people needed urgent medical treatment. The injuries included shrapnel wounds, people hurt while rushing to shelters, and several cases of acute anxiety.

Children were also among the injured. A 10-year-old boy was reported to be in moderate condition, while a 12-year-old boy suffered serious shrapnel injuries.
The strike targeted Dimona, a town widely known for hosting Israel’s nuclear research centre established in 1958.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it is investigating why the Iranian ballistic missile was not intercepted. According to the Israeli military, air defence systems engaged the missile, but the interceptors failed to bring it down.
“The incident will be investigated," the army said.
The strike in southern Israel came hours after the Iranian state media said US-Israeli forces had struck the Shahid Ahmadi-Roshan Natanz enrichment complex on Saturday morning.
Iran described the strike as a response to an alleged earlier attack on its Shahid Ahmadi-Roshan nuclear enrichment facility in Natanz. However, Israel’s military denied carrying out any strike on the Natanz site.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, said the agency was looking into reports of the incident at the Iranian facility.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned the alleged strike on Natanz, warning that it could pose a “real risk of catastrophic disaster" across the West Asia.
