‘Winning Too Much’: Trump’s Cryptic Post After Mexico Drug Lord El Mencho Killed

Hours after the Mexican military announced the killing of notorious drug lord Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho," US President Donald Trump made a cryptic post on social media on Monday. Trump wrote, “We’re Winning too much, it’s just not fair! President DJT." 

His statement came shortly after the Mexican armed forces killed El Mencho in an operation in Jalisco with confirmed intelligence support from the United States.

Who was El Mencho?

El Mencho, 59, was the leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico’s most feared criminal groups. He was wounded in a clash with the Mexican military in the town of Tapalpa, Jalisco, and died while being flown to Mexico City for treatment, the army said. 

The CJNG is known for its role in drug trafficking, extortion, kidnappings and violence across Mexico and beyond.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the United States provided intelligence support to assist the Mexican government in the operation that led to El Mencho’s death. She described him as one of the top traffickers of fentanyl into the US and said the operation resulted in additional cartel members being killed or arrested.

Violence in Mexico

Following the announcement of El Mencho’s death, violence erupted in several parts of Mexico. Armed groups carried out attacks, blocked roads and burned vehicles in response to the operation. Authorities in both Mexico and the US issued travel warnings and advised people in affected areas to stay safe as unrest continued.

Trump’s social media comment came amid speculation about US involvement and reflects ongoing tensions over drug cartel influence and cross-border security cooperation.
