Belagavi: Tilakwadi police have registered a case against a woman on charges of abetment of suicide following the death of a 42-year-old businessman who allegedly took his own life after losing Rs 40.7 lakh in a purported trading investment scheme.According to police, the deceased, Mahesh Nadgouda, a native of Yamkanmardi in Hukkeri taluk, invested Rs 40.7 lakh in phases after a woman identified as Vrinda, reportedly from Bhopal and linked to Mumbai and Coimbatore, allegedly promised him substantial returns through trading investments.The complaint states that despite repeated requests, the accused neither returned the invested amount nor paid the promised profits, causing Mahesh significant financial losses.
His family alleged that the losses left him under severe mental stress.Police said that before taking the extreme step, Mahesh sent a WhatsApp message to the accused. Subsequently, between 8.30am on March 19 and 8am on March 23, he allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself in the hall of his residence at Siddhakala Apartment in Bhagya Nagar, Belagavi.Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother, Umesh Nadgouda, 46, a resident of Yamkanmardi, Tilakwadi police have registered a case against Vrinda under relevant provisions of law for abetment of suicide.
