A 40-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death by her daughter in Sattenapalli town of Palnadu district on February 8, triggering a police investigation. The incident came to light on Friday as the police investigation found some prima facie evidence. The police suspect the daughter of the deceased in the case.
The deceased was identified as Uravakonda Ramadevi, a resident of Christian Peta in Sattenapalli. Hailing from Malapadu village in Bollapalli mandal, Ramadevi had been living in a rented accommodation near the house of her relative for the past two months. She eked out a living by selling clothes and sarees in nearby villages. Her husband Subbayya died by suicide nearly 20 years ago.
Ramadevi has two children. Her son went missing about a decade ago. Her daughter, Lakshmi, married and settled in Vijayawada with two children, reportedly arrived at her house a day ahead of the incident.
The next day, the neighbours noticed flames and thick smoke emanating from the house. They broke open a side door and found the charred body of Ramadevi inside. While some locals suspect electrocution as a burnt wire was seen on the body, the police noted the presence of a plastic bottle and the smell of petrol inside the house. The footage gathered from a CCTV camera installed near the house is being examined, the police said.
Sattenapalli Circle Inspector Narahari Nagamalleswara Rao said the investigation is underway.
