Woman ‘kills’ daughter to pursue marriage with partner

A mother allegedly killed and buried her three-year-old daughter prior to her planned marriage to her live-in partner.

According to the police, the divorced woman, Asha Latha, and her daughter, Durga, has been living in Auto Nagar area of Tirupati. Though the girl had gone missing recently, the mother allegedly remained indifferent to the development.

When questioned by her mother, Nagarathnamma, Asha Latha began evading her questions. Growing suspicious, Nagarathnamma lodged a complaint with the Tirupati East police, who filed a missing case and started the investigation.

When the suspicion fell on Asha Latha, the police interrogated her, after which she confessed to killing her daughter and burying the body near Swarnamukhi river in Papanaidupeta, on the outskirts of Tirupati.

According to the police, Asha Latha had befriended a man named Reddy Kumar through a social media platform and had entered into a live-in relationship with him. Finding the little girl to be an obstacle to their proposed wedding, the two allegedly decided to get rid of her.

The police have taken Asha Latha and Reddy Kumar into custody for further questioning.
