Woman poisons two sons to death, attempts suicide in Khammam

A 30-year-old woman allegedly killed her two sons by administering poison before attempting suicide owing to family disputes at their rented house in Khammam on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

The woman, identified as Swathi, a resident of Pumping Well Road, allegedly served a poison-laced soft drink to her two sons – Vedik Kumar, 7, and Tanishq, 5, before consuming the poisonous substance herself.

While the two children died in the wee hours of Sunday, their mother is battling for life at a hospital in Khammam.

Sources said she took the extreme step following an argument with her husband, Lingaraju, 35, a petty vendor, over his reported decision to shift the family to his native village, Gurralapadu, near Khammam, due to financial problems.
