Woman, toddler found dead in village well

Kalaburagi: A 25-year-old woman and her one-and-a-half-year-old girl child allegedly died by suicide after jumping into an open well on the outskirts of Chinchansur village in Aland taluk of Kalaburagi district on Thursday.The deceased were identified as Ambika Veerabhadrappa and her child Aradhya.According to family sources, Ambika was suffering from mental illness after childbirth and had slipped into depression following her first delivery, as stated in the complaint.Veerabhadrappa, her husband, said she had been undergoing treatment for the illness for the past one-and-a-half years. He added that she had been missing from home since early Thursday morning. “We looked for her everywhere but could not trace her. Later, we found her footwear near an open well on the outskirts of our village and conducted a search, where both bodies were found,” he said.Narona police visited the spot and recovered the bodies of the mother and child.
