Much of social media works on reaction, to other videos, instances and more. And every creator takes up a different angle, while one shares an enraged angle, another sends the viewers into an introspection and some find a humorous angle in everything and laugh it all.
But there's a limit to what one does for clout and it seems at times, the internet does remember this.Ketan Agarwal, a 26-year-old Pune-based realtor was pushed off the Lohagad Fort by his fiancée, Siya Goyal, with whom he was set to tie the knot in November this year. The case sent the entire country into shock over the loss of a young man, all because the woman apparently wanted to marry her boyfriend, Chetan Chowdhary. In the next few days, social media brewed up a storm around the incident, calling out the increasing rate of crimes against men. However, one woman decided to mock the innocent man's death and is facing the users' wrath now.A user named Varun took to X, to share videos of a woman mocking Ketan Agarwal's death where she could be heard mocking and laughing while making insensitive remarks about his death. The woman suggested that Agarwal "deserved" what happened to him because he was bald.
"So guys kya dekh rahi hu mai, kya jo la**da tha uske baal hi nahi the! Ab aap aise jhoot bologe tog maroge hi na, #Ihatemen. 2. Aadmi kya margye, mard samaj me darr faila hua hai," she said in the clip. This was followed by another video where she apologised after facing massive backlash online.Sharing a screen-recording of the clip, Varun wrote, “This girl was laughing at Ketan’s murder and saying he deserved it just because he was bald.
Now when people are calling her out and she’s getting hate, she started crying, playing the victim card, and begging for sympathy. Avg. Feminist Behaviour For Sympathy Gaining."As the post gained traction on X, the woman's comments received widespread criticism for their tone-deafness. Another user claimed that the woman had been suspended from her job for five years. Sharing what was described as a suspension letter, a user wrote: "She has been suspended from her job for 5 years.""In the below video she was mocking Ketan Agarwal’s deah for being bald. Whoever initiated this big thanks & god bless you. No one should mock the dead," they wrote.
Woman apologises online
Following the backlash the woman uploaded a lengthy video apologising for her remarks. In her statement, she admitted that her comments were inappropriate and expressed regret for treating the matter as a joke. She claimed she never intended to demean anyone based on gender and acknowledged that her words had caused harm. She added that she was "very very sorry" for her language and insisted that the clip was not a publicity stunt. She also apologised to Ketan Agarwal's family saying she never supported violence or had a "murderer mentality."Moreover, she added that while she had previously used the phrase "I hate men" due to her personal experiences, she did not intend to target innocent people or judge anyone solely on the basis of gender. The woman even thanked the creator who reposted her original video, saying criticism made her realise that the issue was "not a joke." At the same time, she appealed to people to stop sending abusive messages, saying that while she accepted criticism, she did not believe being called derogatory names was justified. She concluded the clip by promising to her followers that such an incident would not be repeated.
Social media reactions
The entire incident sparked a wave of reactions online with viewers expressing anger over the original video and the subsequent apology."She deserves all the hate. Had she not been called out, authority wouldn't have taken any action in this gynocentric system," wrote a user."Playing fake victim card on social media has become a trend now," added another."Making fun of a tragic incident & saying she is a fun type of person. She still has no remorse after all this if someone can say she was just making fun to make the scenario light, then I feel she is a very very unsympathetic person & deserves the treatment she is receiving," one user wrote."She is balding...as a bald guy, I can see the signs" one quipped."These people do it deliberately for engagement farming," a user said.
