Reflecting on the bond between the two countries, Xi Jinping told the US President in a toast that the relationship between the two nations remains “the most important bilateral relationship in the world" and warning that both sides must “never mess it up."
Speaking during the formal dinner following talks between the two leaders, Xi Jinping said he and Trump had held “in-depth exchanges" on China-US relations as well as broader international and regional developments.
He emphasizsed that both governments shared the belief that stable ties between the world’s two largest economies were critical not only for their own countries but for global peace and prosperity.
“We must make it work and never mess it up," Xi said in his toast, framing cooperation as the only viable path forward amid persistent tensions over trade, security and geopolitical competition.
