Sports can bring activeness and strengthen physical and mental stability, Superintendent of Police Prutwik Shankar said after inaugurating the annual sports competition conducted by the district unit of the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) for journalists at the District Sports Stadium in Yadgir recently.

“Usually, journalists work under pressure, and such pressure tires you soon. But this can be solved by participating in any sport that makes you more physically fit,” Mr. Shankar said and appreciated the KUWJ’s district unit for organising mind-changer games like carrom, chess, kabaddi, volleyball, and cricket.

Mallappa Sankin, district unit president, who chaired the event, said that the unit has been organising an annual sports competition for four years to encourage all journalists to participate in games that help maintain their physical and mental fitness.

The winning teams of kabaddi, volleyball, and cricket were awarded trophies and cash prizes of ₹5,000 each.

The individual winners in shot put, 100-metre sprint, badminton, chess, and carrom games were given cash prizes and medals.

Siddappa Lingeri, secretary, Sagar Desai, member of State Parishat, Raj Kumar Nallikar, treasurer, and others were present.
