Minister Yathindra at a meeting in Bengaluru on Wednesday

Mysuru: Urban development minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting with officials of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and Mysuru Development Authority (Muda) in Bengaluru, directing them to prioritise city cleanliness, solid waste management and the welfare of pourakarmikas.Stressing that Mysuru has earned a national reputation as one of India’s cleanest cities, he said sustained efforts are needed to preserve its image, especially with thousands of domestic and international tourists visiting during Dasara. He instructed officials to ensure proper execution of underground drainage works and effective segregation and disposal of solid waste.Addressing concerns over the steep increase in rents for MCC-owned commercial properties, Yathindra asked officials to review the revised rates.

Officials said rents had remained unchanged for nearly three decades and that the revised rates are still below prevailing market standards. The minister also directed officials to prevent untreated sewage from entering city lakes and to prioritise the welfare of pourakarmikas. He said funds under the 24.1% grant should be used to support the education of sanitation workers’ children. He further ordered Muda to hold monthly board meetings to expedite decision-making and improve public service delivery. Officials said 158 houses under the Pourakarmika Gruha Bhagya Scheme have been completed and are ready for allotment.Mysuru DC Lakshmikanth Reddy, MCC commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif and ZP CEO Ukesh Kumar were present.
