Launching the first leg of a crucial three-nation Indo-Pacific tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday used the global momentum of the ongoing FIFA World Cup to laud the energetic bond shared by the Indian diaspora and local communities in Indonesia.

Addressing a high-profile gathering of the Indian diaspora during his state visit to Jakarta, the Prime Minister noted that a powerful “football fever" seems to mirror his diplomatic calendar in the archipelago.

“The first event took place in Jakarta in 2018, then we met in Bali in 2022, and now, in 2026, we are interacting in Jakarta once again," the Prime Minister noted, highlighting the synchronized rhythm of his state visits with major sporting milestones. He added that during all three diplomatic windows, the electric buzz of world football resonated seamlessly across Indonesia.

Beyond the cultural celebrations, the visit yielded extensive geopolitical outcomes. PM Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto oversaw a major expansion of bilateral relations, cementing strategic agreements spanning from advanced medical frameworks to maritime safety networks.
