Young boy killed, four injured as bus runs them over in Haveri

In a ghastly accident, a two-and-half-year-old boy was killed and four were injured when a bus entered the platform and ran over them at the Haveri Bus Station on Wednesday.

The accident occurred at around 7 a.m. when several passengers were waiting on the platform to board buses.

The boy identified as Hazrat Ali Ismail Raichur of Savanur who suffered severe injuries was rushed to KMCRI Hospital in Hubballi where he breathed his last.

According to Haveri Police, Hazrat Ali and his parents, who had come to Haveri, were waiting for a bus on the platform to return to Savanur, when the Haveri-Laxmeshwar route bus entered the platform and ran over them.

The injured passengers are 44-year-old Vasudev Gurunathappa Utalekar, his six-year-old daughter Harsha, 39-year-old Kavyanjali Vishnu Utalekar of Bankapur and 13-year-old Arbaz Khan Soudagar of Savanur.

They were treated at the District Hospital in Haveri.

The police have registered a case against bus driver Manjunath R., a native of N. Kottur village in Kolar district.
