American singer and actress Mary Millben reacted to a controversy triggered after US President Donald Trump shared a video featuring radio host Michael Savage, who referred to India and China as “hell holes" while criticising America’s birthright citizenship laws.

In a post on X, Millben highlighted the contributions of Indian American and Asian American communities, calling them central to the strength of the United States.

She pushed back against derogatory narratives about India and China, describing both nations as culturally rich and globally significant.

“To my Indian American and Asian American brothers and sisters, you are a central part of what makes America great. To the nations of #India and #China, two countries I have performed in and two cultures I love deeply, you are truly valued in America. You are not hellholes. You are lands of significance. For your soil nurtures the world. God bless you," Millben posted on X.

Iran’s Consulate General in Mumbai also took a jibe at Trump by sharing a video documenting Maharashtra’s rich cultural and geographical heritage, from the bustling city life in Mumbai to Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations to the quiet of the plateaus in Satara and the Tapi River valley in Khandesh.

It claimed that a trip to the state could be a ‘cultural detox’ for Trump.

“Maybe someone should book a one-way cultural detox for Mr. #Trump, it might just reduce the random bakwaas 😏Kabhi #India aa ke dekho, phir bolna," it captioned the video.

What Is The Row?

A controversy erupted after the US President reposted a transcript of a conservative political talk show hosted by American radio host Michael Savage, in which he referred to India, China and other countries as “hellholes," alleging that people travel to the United States late in pregnancy to secure citizenship for their children under birthright citizenship laws.

Trump also shared the video and full transcript of Michael Savage’s podcast Savage Nation, in which the host called for a national referendum on birthright citizenship rather than leaving the matter to the courts, and sharply criticised the US Supreme Court’s ongoing deliberations on the issue.

Later, the US Embassy in New Delhi issued a clarification, stating that Donald Trump considers India “a great country" led by “a very good friend of mine."

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also criticised the remarks amplified by Trump, saying it had taken note of both the comments and the embassy’s clarification. It described the remarks as “uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste," adding that they do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship, which is rooted in mutual respect and shared interests.
