Youth alleges abduction bid by cousins in city; police launch probe

Patna: An FIR was registered on Wednesday against three persons for allegedly attempting to kidnap a youth over an old land dispute under the Kadirganj police station area of Patna on Tuesday night.

A video of the incident, showing several men trying to force the victim into a car, has gone viral on social media.According to police, an investigation was launched after the victim, Ravikant Kumar, lodged a complaint at Kadirganj police station on Wednesday. The incident is linked to an old family dispute over 10 kathas of land, which had earlier been settled through mutual agreement. However, on Tuesday night, while Ravikant was returning home from a birthday party, his cousins — Vipin Kumar alias Chandan, Shankar Kumar, Roshan Kumar and Monu Kumar — allegedly intercepted him.He alleged that the accused tried to forcibly bundle him into a vehicle. On hearing his alarm, local residents rushed to the spot. Seeing the crowd, the assailants fled, leaving him behind. The incident was captured on video recoded by a bystander, showing the men dragging the victim towards a car.Kadirganj SHO Roshan Kumar confirmed that the case appears to stem from a family land dispute. “An FIR has been registered based on the victim’s complaint. We are examining the viral video and conducting raids to arrest the accused,” he said on Thursday.He added that all aspects of the case are being investigated and action will be taken based on evidence. Police teams have raided the residences of the accused people, but they are absconding. Further investigation is underway.
