Gorakhpur: A 30-year-old man was beaten to death with an iron rod and sticks by his relatives over an old rivalry in Bhusa village under Harpur Budhat police station limits on Thursday night. His parents were also injured seriously when they tried to intervene.The deceased, identified as Ramsevak Chauhan, was returning home after irrigating his fields when the accused ambushed him on the way and attacked him. Family members said the assault was carried out by his uncle Shivcharan and cousins Ranjit and Alokalong with a few others due to a long-standing dispute over land rivalry.Ramsevak’s father Ramakant Chauhan, a village watchman posted at Harpur Budhat police station, alleged the accused repeatedly struck his son on the head, stomach and limbs, leading to his death on the spot.
He and his wife Chandrawati were also chased and beaten while trying to rescue him.The injured were rushed to hospital, where doctors declared Ramsevak dead. Based on Ramakant’s complaint, police registered a murder case against Ranjit, Alok and Shivcharan.SP North Gyanendra Kumar said one named accused was detained and police teams were searching for the remaining suspects.
