An argument broke out in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after a group of youths allegedly sprinkled cow urine inside a temple, claiming the premises had become “impure" after a politician’s visit.

The incident took place at the Nageshwar Mahadev Temple in Rahimabad shortly after Maharashtra minister Abdul Sattar offered prayers there on the occasion of Mahashivratri earlier in the day.

Some youth reportedly objected to his presence and argued he should not have entered the temple on the auspicious occasion. They claimed Sattar consumes non-vegetarian food in the morning and therefore should not have been allowed to perform darshan.

Soon after his visit, the group reportedly carried out what they described as a “cleansing" ritual by sprinkling cow urine inside the temple premises.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident that took place in October 2025, a 65-year-old Dalit man was allegedly subjected to humiliation in Lucknow’s Kakori area after he accidentally urinated on temple steps while unwell.

This happened when the victim, identified as Rampal, was reportedly suffering from a breathing illness and felt severe breathlessness while walking home. Unable to control himself, he sat on the steps of the temple where he involuntarily passed urine.

A shopkeeper, who runs a jewellery store opposite the temple, came out in anger and began abusing the elderly man. He accused Rampal of defiling the premises and ordered him to clean it.

The accused allegedly forced the man to lick his own urine and then made him wash the steps and surrounding area with water. The accused was arrested two days after the incident.
