New Delhi: In some reports, it has been indicated that YouTube might be running 90-second unskippable ads for TV users. However, YouTube has officially refuted these claims about the reports. So YouTube has also confirmed that it does not have a 90-second non-skippable ad format, nor are they experimenting with this at the moment.
YouTube has also added that it is now looking into this matter further. Some YouTube users have stated that they notice unusually long ad interruptions, with several reporting ad breaks stretching up to 90 seconds while others are watching videos on their TV.
This is also an extension of the earlier 30-second non-skippable ads that also began rolling out last year. Some of the users have also shared similar experiences online, with screenshots that looked almost identical, even though they show the interface suggesting the skip option only after 90+ seconds.
However, this is why these several reports have surfaced now if such long ad breaks are not officially being rolled out. If this were a bug, one would expect a more direct acknowledgment. Rather, YouTube has only stated that it is looking into this further, which generally leaves room for speculation.
Apart from this, if this were part of an unintended rollout, it could indicate that YouTube has been testing with the longer ad format and might be preparing for the broader test. Some reports have reached out again seeking clarification on how these extended ad breaks appeared in the first place, especially if they are not part of an active test. But YouTube has not responded yet.
