New Delhi: YouTube has officially announced its latest set of Premium features for podcast listeners, by adding more playback controls, smarter listening tools, and AI-powered recommendations to its platform. This upgrade includes an On-the-go mode for easier background listening, an Autospeed feature that automatically adjusts playback speed, and support for podcast recommendations via Ask Music.
These latest features will enable the Premium subscribers to navigate podcasts more easily while commuting or multitasking, listen to content at dynamically adjusted speeds, and discover the latest shows based on their interests, mood, or existing listening habits.
Premium subscribers already have access to features such as background playback, Jump Ahead controls, and faster playback speeds. It built on these tools and aim on making podcast listening more convenient. The latest features being unveiled is On-the-go mode.
It is specially designed for users who primarily listen to podcasts instead of watching them. It offers easier access to listening controls when videos are playing in the background, by making it simpler to navigate long-form audio content without constantly opening the application. This feature is now available for YouTube Premium subscribers on Android. Its support for iOS will arrive in the coming months.
Autospeed automatically changes the playback speed based on the content being played. Rather than requiring the users to select the speed manually, Autospeed can slow down or speed up playback depending on the pace of the conversation.
This feature is now rolling out to Premium users on Android, and it is expected to arrive on iOS soon. It is also extending the capabilities of its Ask Music feature beyond the music recommendations. Earlier, Ask Music enabled the YouTube Music Premium users to generate personalized radio stations and playlists based on prompts. This feature then generates podcast suggestions tailored to those interests by helping users discover the latest content without manually searching through large podcast libraries. This feature is available to YouTube Music Premium and Premium subscribers in the select countries.
The latest podcast features are currently rolling out in phases. On-the-go mode and Autospeedd are officially available to the Premium subscribers on Android, with iOS support planned for the coming months. Podcast recommendations via Ask Music are going to be available to eligible YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium users in select markets.
